About four miles down the eastern shore of Lake Windermere lies the village of Bowness, only a mile from Windermere, but with a unique character. On sunny days the bay buzzes with boats and yachts and the village is colourful with strolling couples, children feeding the ducks and tourists enjoying alfresco meals in busy cafés.
The village has plentiful sports facilities including tennis courts, miniature golf, rowing boats and an 18-hole golf course in Windermere.
Several rewarding walks start from Bowness: on the opposite side of the lake via the pier ferry, north to Ambleside or south to Lakeside with a ferry sailing between both. There is a large choice of cafés, pubs and restaurants in Bowness serving from ethnic food to British home cooking to traditional haute cuisine. The are also boasts a cinema and local night club as well as the Old Laundry Theatre, part of the Beatrix Potter Exhibition complex.
All holidays include FREE private leisure club membership.
