Coniston sits a the foot of the peak known as 'The Old Man' beside Coniston Water. Boats sail between Brantwood Landing and the village while a trip on the elegant steam yacht Gondola is a step back in time and a treat not to be missed.
Excellent walks in the area range from low-level strolls around the lake to intrepid hikes across the fell tops.
To the south of Coniston lies the pretty market town of Ulverston and to the west lies the Duddon Valley, beyond the spectacular Hard Knott and Wrynose passes. Other attractions in the area include the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the splendid Muncaster Castle and the exhilarating walks to Scafell Pike and Wastwater, our deepest lake.
There are dozens of other, often overlooked, places of interest in and around Coniston and every cottage we offer around here makes an excellent base for exploring these intriguing places.
