Location
Roger Ground House and Lydia's Loft are within a small hamlet of traditional Lake District properties, between Hawkshead village and the shores of Esthwaite Water, and also close to the western shores of Lake Windermere and the car-ferry crossing to Bowness.

Hawkshead village is only a stroll away, and a lovely little village to explore. You'll find local shops and delicatessens providing everything you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the Lake District. Stock up the kitchen at the Honeypot Delicatessen - a 'goldmine of Lakeland goodies', or spend a lazy morning in one of the charming tea rooms and cafes. There are several traditional Lakeland pubs to choose from, and we recommend a short drive out to Outgate, to the acclaimed Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant.

Hawkshead is a great base for walking in the Lake District, with endless and varied routes in the surrounding countryside. Take the stunning walk around Tarn Hows, stroll on the shores of Esthwaite Water or explore Grizedale Forest - a picturesque network of pathways, cycle tracks and intriguing sculpture trails. Those with a little more energy might take on Latterbarrow, Claife Heights or explore the Langdale Pikes in the nearby Langdale Valley.

The countryside surrounding Hawkshead is renowned for connections with the author Beatrix Potter, who lived at the nearby hamlet of Near Sawrey. Her home can be visited at Hill Top, right behind Near Sawrey's Tower Bank Arms pub - a traditional treat with stone flagged floors, real Lakeland ale and roaring fire.
