This sleepy hamlet of traditional Lakeland cottages is situated to the west of the Lake, between Hawkshead and the car-ferry crossing Lake Windermere to Bowness. Wonderful Lake District walks surround you, with no need to even use your car and with several excellent country pubs en-route.
Hawkshead village, with its cobbled streets and car-free village centre, is only a couple of miles away, just past lovely Esthwaite Water. Only slightly further afield you'll find shops, restaurants and family attractions in Ambleside, where Windermere Lake Cruises also depart to Bowness and Lakeside. To the west is Coniston Water, where more boating activity awaits along with the opportunity to visit the Brantwood historic house.
