Pye Howe, Langdale
Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 6
This rustic 17th century cottage is thought to be the oldest in the Langdale Valley. Today it stands beautifully refurbished in its sublime rural setting; a genuine walkers' paradise with breathtaking views to the famous Langdale Pikes. Step inside and you'll instantly feel at home in the cosy ambience of traditional Lakeland; stone flagged floors downstairs, gorgeous stripped wood upstairs, picture cottage windows and original exposed beams. The cottage is less than a mile from the village of Chapel Stile, a cracking local pub (one of several in the valley) and a handy village store. If you're bringing children or pets, you'll appreciate the plethora of paths leading in every direction from your doorstep, and the rear garden.

Location
This location is an obvious choice for a walking holiday in the Lake District; hike to England's highest tarn, or take on the spectacular Jake's Rake ridge as you tick off the famous Langdale Pikes; Harrison Stickle, Pike of Stickle and Loft Crag. The adjacent Wasdale and Borrowdale Valleys bring more superb routes within easy reach, and are traditional starting points for an ascent of Scafell Pike.
Nearby Chapel Stile village is only 4 miles from Ambleside and Lake Windermere. The sleepy village boasts an excellent Lake District country pub, The Wainwrights Inn. Although there is a useful village store in Chapel Stile, you'll find Ambleside the perfect place to stock up the kitchen.
A holiday cottage in the Langdale Valley will have a blissfully remote feel, but those who wish to explore will find Ambleside, Coniston, Hawkshead, Grasmere and Windermere within easy reach.
