Ambleside is a sophisticated Lakeland village on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. It's a must-visit for foodies, lovers of Lakeland ale and even shopaholics. But Ambleside is also a hub of outdoor activity; endless routes begin in and around the village, and advice is on hand in expert shops and Ambleside tourist information centre. There are a wide range of outdoor clothing shops in Ambleside.
Our top tip for a scenic Lake District drive, is to go over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, via the Troutbeck Valley to Ullswater. En-route, you'll find the fabulous Queen's Head at Troutbeck, and a leisurely stroll on the shores of Brotherswater. A great day out for all. Don't forget your camera!
