Location
The historic village of Grasmere lies at the very heart of the Lakes and has ample facilities for a self-catering holiday in the Lake District. Grasmere was once home to the famous poet William Wordsworth, whose house Dove Cottage can be visited as part of the Wordsworth museum. A clutch of galleries exhibit the work of local watercolour artists... so many have been inspired by the landscapes surrounding Grasmere. You can while away endless hours here in Grasmere's village square, on the riverside, or taking gentle strolls around the lake. When you're ready to explore further afield, Grasmere's central location is a dream. Find Ambleside, Lake Windermere, the Langdale Valley, Coniston Water and Hawkshead all within easy reach.
Stocking up the kitchen is easy, with a small supermarket for everyday essentials and plenty of specialist shops to liven up your packed lunch.
