Location
Bowness is a contemporary Lake District village, nestled on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere. The high street is well-served with handy supermarkets, sophisticated shops and a wide range of excellent eateries. There is a mainstream cinema, the Royalty, and also an interesting theatre venue called the Old Laundry Theatre.
Keen walkers will find easy access to many popular Lake District walking routes. Head up to Gummers How to admire Lake Windermere from on high, or take the car ferry across the lake to explore walking routes near Hawkshead. Grizedale Forest is also easily accessible via the car ferry, and full of family fun with walking paths, cycle tracks and sculpture trails.
Some of the most popular attractions in Bowness are the boating activities on Lake Windermere. Stroll to Bowness Pier and you can travel by steamer to Ambleside or Lakeside - scenic exploring without using your car. Evening cruises are also available, with live music and buffet meals.
