Location
This rural Lake District holiday cottage is only 2 miles from the village of Grasmere, at the heart of the Lakes. Grasmere is full of historic interest and has a delightful village centre, well served with shops, tea rooms, cafes, restaurants and traditional Lakeland pubs.
The village is known for its artistic inspiration; William Wordsworth lived here during his most productive time as a poet, and his home at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum is open for the public to explore. There are several watercolour galleries in the village, including the acclaimed Heaton Cooper Studio.
Despite your spectacular rural surroundings, exploring the rest of the Lakes is easy. From Grasmere, the A591 leads to Rydal Water and Ambleside, then on to Windermere and Bowness. You'll have plenty of opportunities to get out on Lake Windermere - hire boats and cruises depart from both Ambleside and Bowness to ferry you the full length of the lake.
Branch off at Ambleside to the Langdale Valley, or south to Coniston - the Lake District's third largest lake and home to 'Wild Cat Island' of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons. Also to the south is picture-postcard Hawkshead, home of Beatrix Potter.
