Location
This romantic holiday home in the Troutbeck Valley enjoys the best of both worlds; enjoy the peace and quiet of one of the Lake District's most picturesque valleys, but find the vibrant Lake District holiday destinations of Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside only a few miles away.
The Troutbeck Valley lies between Lake Windermere and Ambleside, at the start of the dramatic Kirkstone Pass road to Ullswater. The valley is scattered with traditional Lake District country cottages but never crowded, and Troutbeck village is free from touristy shops and car parks. However, you'll find several excellent country pubs in the area - the Mortal Man in Troutbeck village and the acclaimed Queen's Head at the start of Kirkstone Pass (your scenic drive to Ullswater). Both are ideal for a romantic occasion or family treat, serving mouthwatering locally-sourced dishes and real ale.

Despite the air of seclusion, you only need travel a few miles to reach shops, Booths supermarket, cafes and restaurants in Windermere village, just off the A591. Follow the road a few miles further and you'll reach bustling Bowness, packed with pubs and eateries and enjoying all the boating activity of Lake Windermere's shores. There are plenty of family attractions in Bowness, including the World of Beatrix Potter attraction, mini golf on the Glebe and the Windermere Golf Club nearby.
Follow the A591 north and you'll reach Ambleside on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. This cosmopolitan village is great for shopping, offers several acclaimed Lake District restaurants such as The Glass House, and also offers Windermere Lake Cruises from Waterhead Pier. Continue on the A591 to Rydal Water and historic Grasmere. It couldn't be easier to explore!
