Location
Self-catering accommodation in Bowness is a great way to make the most of your holiday in the Lake District, and a must if you're visiting for the first time. The bustling village lies on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, alongside Bowness Bay - where hire boats come and go, Windermere Lake Cruises depart and elegant yachts can be seen heading out from the Royal Windermere Yacht Club. The steamers offer the perfect way to explore without taking the car; hop on at Bowness Pier and hop off at Ambleside to the north, or Lakeside to the south. Both are well worth a visit.
Bowness village itself is a friendly community, alive with contemporary shops, a wide range of restaurants and plenty of options for evenings out. Choose from traditional Lakeland pubs such as the 'Hole int Wall', trendy bars and nightclub, or the Royalty Cinema or Old Laundry Theatre. If golf is your thing, you'll find a superb scenic course just outside the village at Windermere Golf Club.
For touring the wider Lake District, Bowness is a great place to start. Lake District bus tours depart from the village, and you're only a couple of miles from the scenic A591 - our main route into the heart of the Lakes.
