Location
Near Sawrey lies between Esthwaite Water and Lake Windermere, only a short distance from Hawkshead and also the car-ferry crossing over Lake Windermere to Bowness. The village is known for its connections with Beatrix Potter, whose former home at Hill Tip is owned by the National Trust and open to the public. Only a mile away, Hawkshead is your stop-off for stocking up the kitchen. It's a lovely place to while away a day, with its car free village centre, small shops and traditional atmosphere.

The car-ferry crossing to Bowness is only a short drive away, and places our liveliest Lake District holiday destination within easy reach. You'll find contemporary shopping on the high street, and a wealth of boating activities in Bowness Bay. Windermere Lake Cruises travel to both Ambleside and Lakeside, and also offer romantic evening cruises with buffet food and live music. Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village.

A holiday cottage in Near Sawrey provides an excellent base for walking in the Lake District. Stroll in pretty much any direction from your door, or travel a short distance to the Langdale Valley, Ambleside and Coniston.
