Location
White Cross holiday park is found on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, close to Windermere village and only a very short drive from Ambleside. The park is easily accessible from the M6, and a short distance from Windermere train station.
Windermere village is the place to stop off and stock up for your self-catering kitchen; Windermere Booths supermarket is just next to the train station, and offers the finest Lakeland produce along with all your everyday essentials. There are also some excellent traditional pubs, cafes and restaurants to sample in Windermere village.
Only a couple of miles down the road from Windermere is the lively lake shore village of Bowness, which is well worth a visit for the waterborne activities of Bowness Bay, where hire boats come and go and Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside.
Family attractions in Bowness include the World of Beatrix Potter attraction, the mainstream Royalty Cinema and the Old Laundry Theatre. Windermere Golf Club is also located just outside Bowness village.
For exploring further afield, the A591 leads easily north to Ambleside, historic Grasmere and beyond. From Troutbeck Bridge, you can also drive the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, which takes in dramatic scenery on its winding way to Ullswater.
