Location
A holiday cottage in Near Sawrey, a peaceful village between Hawkshead, Esthwaite Water and the western shores of Lake Windermere, places you at the heart of the Lakes and near to Beatrix Potter's former home at Hill Top. You'll soon see why she was inspired by the spectacular countryside scenes, and by the tranquility of untouched Esthwaite Water (fictional home of 'Jeremy Fisher') which lies between Near Sawrey and Hawkshead village. There are glorious landscapes to explore around Near Sawrey; Esthwaite Water, the spectacular Tarn Hows walk, Grizedale Forest for walking, cycling and sculpture trails. Walkers will be very well-placed to enjoy some of the most famous walks in the Lake District.
Hawkshead village is a close-by delight, scattered with traditional Lakeland cottages and blessed with a delightful car-free village centre offering shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs. Stock up your kitchen at 'The Honeypot' delicatessen - 'a goldmine of Lakeland goodies'! Also within easy reach are Ambleside, at the north end of Lake Windermere, and Bowness village via the car-ferry crossing Lake Windermere.
