Location
Ambleside is one of the most vibrant, and perhaps the most sophisticated village in the Lake District. It's lake shore location and excellent facilities make it the ideal choice for a self-catering break. Only seconds from your door you'll find a superb range of excellent restaurants, tasty cafes, local delicatessens, interesting shops, cinema and more. The shore of Lake Windermere is also only a stroll away at Waterhead Pier, where pub restaurants overlook the lake and Windermere Lake Cruises depart with trips to Bowness and Lakeside. A unique day out!
For exploring the rest of the Lake District, walkers and cyclists (or even just self-confessed foodies!) will find Ambleside an ideal base. The A591 leads you south to Troutbeck, Windermere and Bowness, or north to Rydal Water, Grasmere then on to Langdale, Coniston or Keswick.
