Holme Cottage, Ambleside

Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 4

VisitEngland 4 star rated property

Contemporary style and Lakeland character are perfectly combined in this traditional Ambleside cottage. Holme Cottage is a treat for a couple or small family, and a romantic choice for a honeymoon in the Lake District. It nestles in a peaceful spot just a stroll away from Ambleside village centre and the shores of Lake Windermere. The interior has been beautifully refurbished with real attention to the details; retaining the charm of slate flag floors, old oak beams and woodburning stove, but placing an emphasis on comfort with deep carpets, sumptuous Laura Ashley furnishings and a sleek house bathroom. You'll love to be so close to Ambleside's sophisticated shops, restaurants and pubs, and Waterhead Pier where steamers depart to Bowness and Lakeside.

Location
Ambleside is the Lake District's most sophisticated village, steeped with historic buildings and traditional Lake District cottages, but well-served with high quality shops, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and even the Zeffirellis cinema, pizzeria and jazz bar.
Stroll to the village centre and you'll find an excellent choice for a lazy breakfast, as well as tempting delicatessens such as Lucy's of Ambleside; a treat for stocking up the kitchen. For a special evening out, try The Glass House restaurant in Ambleside village centre; favoured by Gordon Ramsey among others!

Just outside the village centre you'll reach Waterhead Pier on the shores of Lake Windermere, within easy walking distance. From the pier, Windermere Lake Cruises depart to Bowness and Lakeside - two other popular Lake District holiday destinations and well worth a visit. An evening cruise and buffet on the lake is highly recommended on a romantic occasion!
Ambleside is also renowned as a base for walking in the Lake District. You'll find easy and challenging Ambleside walking routes beginning in the village and surrounding area, plenty of advice on hand in expert shops and tourist information. Famous Lake District walks in the Langdale Valley, Grasmere and Coniston are also within easy reach via the A591.
