Priory Manor, Windermere

Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 6

VisitEngland 4 star gold rated property

An intriguing Grade II listed character property and original priory, where ancient England meets luxurious and sometimes funky contemporary style. The views over Lake Windermere, from throughout the property, are outstanding. Take a wander through the magical grounds and gardens (with terraces and garden furniture) to the lake shore, where you're free to launch your canoes, windsurfers or small boats (note that no launching or overnight mooring is possible on the private jetty). Priory Manor is a great option for two couples, with 2 en-suite king-size bedrooms. Extra guests can be accommodated on single beds in each of the upper floor day rooms. And although a laptop will look out of place in the 18th century office, there's free WiFi for those who need it.

Accommodation in detail

As well as the gardens, a suntrap furnished terrace provides for meals al-fresco.

Location
This unique Windermere self-catering property offers easy access to the lake shore, but also to the popular villages of Windermere and Bowness. In Windermere you'll find food-shopping a treat, with a large Booths supermarket selling the finest local produce as well as everyday essentials. Windermere high street also has a traditional butcher and several cafes and pubs, serving real Lakeland ale.

Just a couple of miles down the road you'll find bustling Bowness village, alive with all the boating activity of Bowness Bay. Hire boats and row boats come and go, and the elegant Windermere 'steamers' provide your car-free route to explore Ambleside and Lakeside.
Bowness village has the liveliest nightlife in the area; from cosy traditional pubs to trendy tapas bars, fine dining restaurants to lake shore nightclub The Wheelhouse. Windermere Golf Club is located just outside Bowness village.

From Priory Manor you'll enjoy easy access by car or bus to other popular Lake District holiday destinations, such as Hawkshead (via the car ferry across Lake Windermere from Bowness), the Troutbeck Valley, Ullswater, Ambleside and Grasmere. Just off the A591, you are well-placed for taking the main route into the heart of the Lakes.
