Location
At the very heart of the Lakes, Grasmere is a delightful Lakeland village with ample facilities for a self-catering break in the Lake District - including some excellent pubs and restaurants. Grasmere is steeped with artistic history; being the former home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. He lived in the village in Dove Cottage (now open to the public and part of the Wordsworth Museum) during one of his most productive periods of work. Several watercolour galleries exhibit the work of local artists, such as the renowned Heaton Cooper Studio.

Grasmere is a great place to base a family holiday in the Lake District.  Explore the picturesque village centre, enjoy numerous riverside strolls or take on adventurous fell walks, such as the scenic route to Easedale Tarn which is nestled in the fells above the village. Fairfield, Silver How and Loughrigg are just a few of the famous Lake District walks that are within easy reach to tempt you. The popular starting point for Helvellyn is only a short drive away at Thirlmere.
From Grasmere, exploring other highlights of the Lake District is easy.
For example, follow the A591 to Ambleside, to sample the shops, cafes and restaurants of this vibrant Lakeland village. Branch off west to the spectacular Langdale Valley, or head a short distance south to Coniston, the Lake District's third largest lake overlooked by the Brantwood historic house. Also to your south is pretty Hawkshead, famously home to Beatrix Potter, where you can visit the author's untouched home at Hill Top.
