Location
This stylish Bowness holiday cottage is a peaceful and sophisticated base from which to explore our most popular Lake District holiday destination.
On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness village is a vibrant community of high quality shops, cafes, excellent Lake District restaurants and unique nightlife - from the traditional Lakeland charm of the 'Hole int Wall' to the classy tapas bar, Bodega & Sol. There's even the Royalty Cinema and the Old Laundry Theatre for a cultured evening out.
Of course, the main attraction in Bowness is Windermere Lake. Stroll down from the village high street to Bowness Bay, where hire boats come and go, elegant yachts pass by from the Royal Windermere Yacht Club and Windermere Lake Cruises ferry passengers the full length of the lake with stops at Ambleside and Lakeside - a great way to explore without even using your car.
Just outside the village you'll find the Windermere Golf Club, right en-route into the stunning Lyth Valley which is famous for its excellent country gastropubs. Make sure you try at least one!
For exploring the rest of the Lake District, Bowness is a great place to start. Lake District bus tours and routes depart in the village, and the A591 road leads easily from nearby Windermere village to Ambleside, Rydal Water and Grasmere - bringing the Langdale Valley, Coniston and Hawkshead within easy reach. A drive over the Kirkstone Pass from Windermere to Ullswater is highly recommended, with a stop at the fabulous Queen's Head for lunch!
