The Coachmans Cottage, Ambleside

Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 6

VisitEngland 4 star gold rated property

A short walk from Ambleside, you'll find this fabulous character property on the banks of the River Rothay. The setting is sublime with breathtaking panoramic views, and the property itself is a retreat to write home about. Once a coachman's cottage and stables, the property was later owned by Queen Victoria's physician, then more recently by a local artist. A tasteful, contemporary renovation has made best use of the original stable space, to create an exceptional, interconnected living area flooded with light and full of character; old oak beams, sleek slate floors, exposed stone walls and a large open fire.
The bedrooms too are spacious and bright, and the gardens are your haven for sunny days with many scenic patios and  a path to Loughrigg Fell.

Location
It's hard to describe the magic of this location; on the banks of the River Rothay and nestled in breathtaking landscapes between Ambleside and Rydal Water. Even when explored by car, this area is one of the Lake District's most beautiful with Lake Windermere almost on your doorstep…and from your holiday property you'll enjoy panoramic views throughout your stay.
The nearest village is Ambleside, a short walk away on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. Ambleside has long been one of the Lake District's most popular destinations; a pretty historic village that has grown to become one of the most sophisticated holiday communities in the Lake District.
The location of The Coachmans Cottage is ideal for enjoying this fabulous village without being immersed in crowds. Superb shopping, excellent restaurants and fine local pubs share the streets with traditional Lakeland cottages and fascinating historic buildings. Just outside Ambleside village centre, Windermere Lake Cruises depart from the pier providing your car-free route to explore Bowness and Lakeside.
A slightly longer walk will take you past serene Rydal Water and into the historic village of Grasmere; famed as a hub for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts but also home to such attractions as Dove Cottage - former home of the famous poet WIlliam Wordsworth.
As well as an abundance of walking to enjoy from your door, you'll find acclaimed Lake District country pubs aplenty in the surrounding area. The perfect way to refuel after a day on the fells (if you can tear yourself away from your own superb kitchen!).
