The Bay Cottage, Ambleside

Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 6

VisitEngland 3 star rated property

Just 100m from the shores of Lake Windermere at Waterhead, and a short walk from Ambleside village, The Bay Cottage is one of eight in a pretty row. Scenic lake cruises depart close by, there are plenty of opportunities to take to the water and Ambleside's shopping, restaurants and bars are close enough to be enjoyed without use of your car. The cottage itself appears wonderfully traditional from the outside; and the homely character continues throughout with the addition of many contemporary creature comforts. Even 3 couples could enjoy their space here; each double bedroom is thoughtfully presented, some with own TVs and all with private bathroom facilities. Cosy, fire-warmed living and dining areas create a lovely venue for sociable evenings.

Accommodation in detail
On the ground floor are the modern fitted kitchen and the living room; a light yet cosy room with open fire, comfy furnishings and a large LCD TV/DVD. Ground floor WC. Upstairs to the dining room, with gas fire in a cast iron fireplace. Also on the first floor is the first double bedroom (which could have exclusive use of the shower room next to it).
Upstairs again to a further double and a king-size bedroom, both with en-suite facilities. The king-size bedroom has a large TV and the double on this floor has a swivel TV and a lovely fell view, but some traffic noise as it is at the front of the house. Private parking for 1 small car (of around VW Polo or Vauxhall Corsa size).

At the head of beautiful Lake Windermere on the lake shore, just outside Ambleside village centre, you'll find the area known as Waterhead. The Bay Cottage takes a delightful location within this area, only 100m from the lakeshore and a stone's throw from Windermere lake cruise departures at Ambleside Pier. Breathtaking Lakeland Fells tower around, creating superb scenery at every turn.
From your door, without driving, you could explore the whole length of Lake Windermere  - the 'steamer' cruises depart regularly and allow you to 'hop on and hop off' at Bowness and Lakeside.
Waterhead is a superb location for families and groups, being only a short stroll from the vibrant centre of Ambleside without being caught up in the hustle and bustle.

Ambleside is an attractive and much-loved Lakeland village, scattered with interesting historic buildings and traditional Lakeland cottages. Over the years the friendly village centre has pleasantly developed to become one of the most sophisticated destinations in the Lakes. You'll find wonderful shops - from expert outdoor stores to clothing boutiques - and a fabulous range of places to eat and also to stock up the kitchen. By night, stroll to one of the many traditional pubs, head out to a bar or sample acclaimed Lake District restaurants such as The Glass House. Ambleside even has two cinemas to entertain. The village is renowned as an excellent base for walking in the Lake District, and with the breathtaking mountain scenery all around you'll certainly be inspired to put on your boots.
For exploring the wider Lake District, Ambleside is a superb starting point, right at the heart of the Lakes. No distances are too great for scenic touring by car, and bus links from Ambleside to other popular Lake District villages are good. Enjoy!
