Location
Ambleside village is one of the Lake District's gems; traditional yet cosmopolitan, friendly and full of quirky Cumbrian surprises. An excellent range of local shops provide everything you need to stock up the kitchen, a wide range of excellent restaurants are available to try (including those on the stunning shores of Lake Windermere), Lakeland pubs to wind down in and an excellent cinema too. The main attraction is of course Lake Windermere's shore, and within a few minutes you'll be walking on to Waterhead Pier and taking a leisurely lake cruise to Bowness or Lakeside.
For day trips throughout the Lakes, Ambleside is a great place to start. The A591 leads north to Rydal Water, Grasmere, Coniston and Langdale, or south to Troutbeck, Windermere, Bowness and so on.
