Location
Vibrant Ambleside is quite the cosmopolitan Lake District village, drenched with traditional charm but perfect for the more sophisticated or perhaps romantic self-catering holiday. The centre is full of fabulous restaurants, tempting delicatessens, friendly Lakeland pubs and bars, and an excellent cinema for rainy days or relaxed nights. Stroll a few minutes to the lake shore at Waterhead Pier, where you can catch a steamer cruise all the way to Bowness or Lakeside.

Ambleside is a famed gathering place for walkers and hikers, and there's no shortage of kit, camaraderie and advice in the many specialist outdoor shops on the high street. You'll find some of the Lake District's best-loved routes begin very close by - great for keen walkers or walking groups.
