Ducklin Cottage, Hawkshead

Arrival day: Saturday | Sleeps: 5

VisitEngland 4 star rated property

Only a short stroll from Hawkshead's picture postcard village centre and beside a trickling stream, this luxurious Lakeland cottage/barn conversion is something really special. It's said to adjoin Wordsworth's childhood home, and now has been transformed into a stylish, sumptuous and elegant Lake District retreat boasting the same stunning views that inspired this young poet. Attractive exposed beams and vaulted ceilings adorn several of the rooms, and a warming living room stove retains the quintessential character of rural living. At the same time, you'll appreciate the contemporary comforts; a sleek modern kitchen with heated ground tiles, stylish bathroom and shower room and indulgent soft furnishings throughout.

Location
Pretty little Hawkshead is renowned for its Lakeland magic; home of Beatrix Potter, inspiration to William Wordsworth and surrounded by landscapes you'll be dying to walk through. The village itself is a lovely community to slip into for a week or two of self-catering holiday... cobbled streets, whitewashed cottages, lovely old Lakeland pubs and a car-free village centre make for a uniquely rejuvenating atmosphere.

In the surrounds of the village, small, untouched Esthwaite Water is a must for Potter fans, being home to her 'Jeremy Fisher' character. Nearby Tarn Hows is one of the most-loved easy walks in the Lake District, and Grizedale Forest promises plenty of fun with sculpture trails and mountain bike tracks. If you're a serious walker, you'll already know the extent of breathtaking hikes to be tried - probably from your door!
Hawkshead is only 15-20 minutes from the main route through the Lakes, you won't have a stressful car journey for the duration of your self-catering holiday.
