Location
The pretty, well-served and sophisticated little village of Windermere takes you away from the tourist bustle of Bowness Bay, making an ideal base for a romantic self-catering Lake District break. Everything you need during your stay is within this small village centre; excellent local Booths supermarket, shops, butcher, cafes, a few great restaurants and cosy traditional Lakeland pubs. You'll even find a stunning walk from the village - climb Orrest Head for views over Lake Windermere. Nearby Bowness offers even more choice when it comes to eateries and entertainments. There's a cinema, theatre and of course the boating attractions of Windermere lake itself - Windermere Lake Cruises are a really romantic way to spend a day or evening afloat!
But if you simply want a self-catering Lake District bolt hole from which to explore the wider region, Windermere is also an excellent choice. Main road routes and bus connections take you easily to Bowness and the southern end of the Lake, or to Ambleside, Rydal Water, Grasmere and beyond. You won't find yourself out of the way, but you'll never forget that you're right at the heart of the Lakes, surrounded by the landscapes that make our region world famous.
