We found Kelbarrow on the fringe of this picturesque village in the absolute heart of the Lake District national park and everyone who tastes this plethora of 5 star delights is left longing to return.
Only a gentle and most pleasant stroll from the centre of Grasmere will lead you to discover a private drive leading to a fabulous Lakeland Gentleman's residence, converted many years earlier to a few stylish and sophisticated residences, built of local stone and slate and providing secluded privacy in a sublime setting commanding the views, which remain with you long after you leave. Step foot inside this harmonious residence and be marveled by the sheer attention to detail and finishing touches, combining Victorian splendor with sumptuous modern 21st century living. The whole property exudes an air of calm and the atmosphere is very hard to describe, yet leaves you with a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. The clever mix of Laura Ashley and Farrow & Ball blend effortlessly with a style and luxury, rarely found and certainly never forgotten. Walks are surrounding the property in every direction, possibly the best selection in the district and Grasmere village is teeming with great tea rooms, pubs, local shops and a few great restaurants to tempt you out. So if searching for something that bit special for an occasion never to be forgotten in possibly the best location in the British Isles never mind the Lake District, then look no more as Kelbarrow is for you.
The accommodation comprises; a drive up the sweeping private driveway leads you to the residence and first sight of Grasmere Water; an impressive entry to this country house is through an entrance porch with flagged floor into a spacious and simply gracious kitchen / dining room. Mood lighting and sophisticated bespoke oak kitchen with Italian tiling and granite work surfaces complemented by a style and design seldom found in traditional properties in our area. This room is extremely well equipped and transforms into a second reception room with original working shutters providing traditional style. Oak doors with beveled edge glass panels lead off into the drawing room, cascading with Lakeland light through picture windows and French doors which in turn lead out to the sylvan garden. This room provides a warming woodburner set into a Victorian fireplace. The sumptuous Wesley Barrell furnishings are extremely relaxing on the polished wooden floor with deep floor coverings. From the kitchen the Italian tiled floor follows through to a cloakroom with wc and wash basin and on this level is a beautiful double bedroom with brass bed and delightful furnishings to complement the co-ordination. Upstairs to a spacious landing and luxurious bathroom, ideal for long soaks after a fell walk or two. The twin bedroom is individual and stylish and yet the master king size bedroom is luxury itself; a place to truly escape and with a view to die for overlooking Grasmere Water. Beyond the foot of the Laura Ashley bed is an unusual window overlooking the garden incorporating an original Westmorland Fireplace, and this has to be seen to be appreciated properly. There is an en-suite luxurious shower room with a reflection over the lake.
