Outstanding detached Lake District character cottages set in wonderful locations don’t come any better than Gara Garthe, oozing traditional 17th century charm, blending effortlessly with 21st century luxuries.
Proudly standing at the head of the valley within the picture postcard hamlet of Troutbeck, you could not find a better place to relax and soak up the true Westmorland wonders. The views down the valley are simply breathtaking and walks are in abundance straight from your doorstep. The dramatic fells which surround you appear so close you can almost reach out and touch them.
As soon as you step foot inside the newly re-furbished Gara Garthe you are instantly delighted as this is truly a beautiful and spacious cottage mixing old oak beams, oak paneling, a spice cupboard, dreamy window seats and warming fireplaces. The traditional 17th Century charm and character is enhanced by distinctive ‘Farrow & Ball’ colours and sumptuous Laura Ashley furnishings and fabrics. Fine attention to detail is obvious throughout.
If all this is not enough the perfect location of Troutbeck, very close to both Ambleside and Windermere’s bustling villages, also boasts two traditional and rather inviting country pubs/ restaurants, serving real ales and inspirational cuisine.
The accommodation comprises; there are two entrances to this impressive residence yet we use the back entrance, approached via stone steps (with handrail) with flagged floor and useful cloakroom with WC & washbasin. The farmhouse kitchen/ breakfast room is a reception room itself with oak king post structure dividing the room; quarry tiled floor and a superb oak kitchen providing everything you may need for the perfect gathering. A breakfast table seating 6 is great for early risers alongside a wood burning stove & wall mounted LCD Digital TV. There is a separate utility room. The beautiful drawing room is calming and traditional again with a warming open fire, picturesque windows with window seating, old oak beams and sumptuous deep cushioned furnishings. The elegant dining room boasts a fine oak table comfortably seating 10, more oak tradition and a Victorian fireplace. Upstairs to the delightful bedrooms, each enjoying its own wonderful view and all with brass beds, co-ordniatary linens and fabrics and much more. All the bathroom facilities are state of the art but we all look forward to a long soak in the roll top bath with ball and claw feet. The gardens wrap around the house with secret hiding places to escape to including patios with furniture and a summerhouse. The gardens are enclosed and there is a small pond so please be vigilant with small children. Finally the 17th Century bank barn is delightful and full of mystery but now completely empty so if you wish to safely store mountain bikes and the like or simply visit the resident owl, please take care.
Please be advised, steps without handrail lead from the parking area outside the barn, down to the front door.
