This is a beautiful 17th century farmhouse. The essence of old Lakeland charm and character, cosily tucked away from the road, and presiding over a quiet courtyard which it shares with two other dwellings (once, presumably, part of the old farm buildings). Birkwray Farmhouse offers comfortable cottage living amidst some of our prettiest scenery. The location really is ideal.
Hawkshead and Ambleside are handily close, with a variety of shops and places to eat. Equally accessible are the Coniston Fells and the Langdale Valleys where excellent walking and climbing are to be found, with walking in the more southerly parts like Grizedale Forest; while easy driving in any direction leads to a variety of activities and attractions. Best of all, in the eyes of many visitors, good food (with periodic jazz nights and other entertainment) are available at a friendly pub called The Outgate Inn just a couple of minute's walk away. In the farmhouse itself, many interesting old features live happily with up-to-date convenience, and pretty personal touches enhance each room.
The accommodation comprises - porched front entrance into a spacious living room complete with stone fireplace, latched doors, old beams, and horse brasses, super new kitchen with a good range of cupboards and 'back' door into the courtyard, large 'useful room' (perhaps once a dairy) with stone flagged floor and plenty of space for walking gear or toys, stairs from the living room to three good bedrooms (a double with en suite shower room and two twin, one with washbasin) and the bathroom, attached laundry room (but reached from outside) & extra WC, pretty little garden (reached via a few steps) with good sized patio overlooking delightful rural views, parking for two cars.
