A Personal Recommendation

We have a great selection of restaurants on offer here in the Lakes and we find any excuse to visit them. This week we visited the Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge, just ten minutes drive from Bowness. This 17th century coaching inn is a brilliant retreat on a rainy day to cosy up by the fire or a great spot for a cold drink on the sun terrace on one of our warmer days.

Welcomed in by a smile and shown to a rustic table in the restaurant we were greeted by a whole host of locally sourced country meals on the menu, along side some intriguing specials. I chose the gravadlax salad with dill dressing to start followed by the Cartmel Valley sausage with mango and stilton on a bed of spring onion mash – delicious. My partner chose the ‘Laggis’ which is a local take on haggis followed by the Hare and Hounds Hot pot. The atmosphere in here was warm and friendly, full of country folk enjoying the local ales on tap and first time diners struggling over what to chose. The food is of a brilliant standard, it was just a shame that we didn’t have room for pudding. Never fear, we feel a wine and pudding night coming on…
