Responsible Visitor Charter & Environmental Advice - Lakelovers

Responsible Visitor Charter

Lakelovers Responsible Visitor Charter

We are more than aware of the impact that our operations has on the environment, and we are trying our best to be more eco-friendly, but we could also do with your help too….. Here are a few things you can do whilst you’re her and also at home to help save the planet. As a visitor you have a very important role to play in helping us to conserve our natural assets and become a more sustainable destination. Here are our recommended tips on how you can help:

Conserve Energy

Reduce energy by switching off lights and closing windows if heating is on. It’s also a great idea to put the log burner on in your property rather than the electric or gas heating.

Give the Car a Rest

Leave the car behind, if only for a day. Walk, cycle or use public transport. We will happily provide you with advice and information about what to do and how to get about in the Lakes without a car. Also look out for our Car Free Care Days – specially commissioned by Friends of the Lake District.

Shop Local

Use local products, they give you a flavour of the area and help support local communities. We are fortunate to have some fantastic producers of food, drink and arts and crafts. Ask us about local markets, farm shops and local and regional produce.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Try to avoid overly packaged goods and say no to that extra carrier bag. Please try to recycle wherever possible.

Be Water Wise

The UK has rising costs for water treatment and flood defence so please use water wisely. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and adhere to towel and linen policies.

Respect Nature

Help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering, guarding against fire and using footpaths and cycle-ways responsibly. Ensure you follow the Countryside Code, we work closely with Friends of the Lake District, so should you be interested in joining their Fell Care Days we would be more than happy to advise you on the next steps to take.

Support Green Businesses

There are thousands of businesses in the British Isles working to reduce their carbon footprint through the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Businesses are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold for their efforts to be more sustainable. We are currently awaiting are award, but are very excited about all the effort we put in and what colour our award might be!
