Lakelovers

Why a holiday in the Lake District will be the highlight of your Summer

With prices of holidays in Europe on the up, maybe, it’s time to book closer to home.

Cumbria and the Lake District have mountains, lakes, rivers – and beaches.

To get to this beauty spot with peaceful waters and rolling hills, you don’t have to negotiate the airport, no need to exchange currency – it’s only a few hours drive or train ride away.

What more do you want from your summer holiday in 2017?

There’s walking, sailing, kayaking, climbing, cycling, horseriding for the adventure-lovers.

And, for those of you looking for something relaxing, there’s an abundance of great tourist attractions and cultural delights. Not forgetting the picturesque patchwork the Lake District provides for free.

Keen to see what the Lake District has to offer, Express journalist Jess Wilson headed ‘up north’ to see what all the hype was about – and she wasn’t disappointed.

In fact, she was delighted.

“It’s hard to see why anyone would want to spend their holidays anywhere other than the Lake District”, she wrote.

She stayed at our Yew Tree – a 5-bedroom luxury holiday cottage on the banks of Windermere with its own lakeside jetty.

It’s fair to say that she was impressed.

“The cottage is set up with everything you could possibly need – so we felt no need to leave the house for dinner and enjoyed some home cooked grub on the terrace instead”, she wrote in her article last May.

Impressed by the self-catering holiday cottage, here’s what Jess did next:

Clearly sold by how good a holiday in Cumbria and the Lake District can be, she gave 7 reasons why holidaying in the Lake District might be “the most fun you’ve had all summer”, and here they are:

  1. The walks
  2. The boats
  3. The food
  4. The wildlife
  5. The art
  6. The Beatrix Potter Museum
  7. The accommodation – why? Because she reckons “Lakelovers have an option for everyone – with over 450 properties all over the district”.

So, how to get the perfect ‘staycation’?
