{"id":1283,"date":"2016-09-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-19T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelovers.cottage-search.com\/blog\/lakelover-ian-creates-3d-model-scafell-pike\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T16:46:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T16:46:26","slug":"lakelover-ian-creates-3d-model-scafell-pike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/lakelover-ian-creates-3d-model-scafell-pike\/","title":{"rendered":"Lakelover Ian creates unique 3D model of Scafell Pike"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>One of our\u00a0employee\u2019s love of the Lake District fells has led to him creating a wonderful 3D souvenir for tourists<\/h2>\n<p>Lakelovers Owner Relationship manager Ian Robinson, who has spent countless days walking the Cumbrian peaks, has made 3D models of Scafell Pike and surrounding fells \u2013 so walkers have something to remind them of their adventure up England\u2019s highest peak.<\/p>\n<p>The mountain in the Lake District National Park is an exhilarating and breathtaking trek 3,209 ft above sea level and is a favourite destination for walking holidays in the Lake District.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThere are lots of maps of the Lake District and there are lots of 3D wall maps on the market, but no small scale 3D model of the highest peak in England,\u201d<\/em> says Ian.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d seen small models of the Alps from the late 19th Century which were brass, so, I thought why not create one for the Lake District.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1141733 alignleft b-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Model-2-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"Scafell in the Lake District\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Model-2-400x267.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>Ian Robinson\u2019s 3D model of Scafell <\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many people do the Three Peaks Challenge these days and this is something that they can buy to commemorate climbing the highest peak in England.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ian worked with Lancaster engineering students and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancasterguardian.co.uk\/lifestyle\/ear-today-art-tomorrow-1-1165824\">Lancaster sculptor, Alan Ward<\/a>, so make sure that the model was accurate and detailed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat you get with the 3D model is a real sense of the landscape. You can run your fingers over the route that you walked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou might have gone up one side, but with looking at the model, you might decide that next time you will go up via one of the other routes. So it gives you a real sense of exploration and geography of England\u2019s highest peak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ian, who has worked in the tourist information, youth hostels and in the holiday cottage industry in the Lake District for nearly 20 years, describes Scafell Pike as the most \u201cdramatic\u201d landscape in the Lakes.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s completed the challenging hike up Scafell Pike countless times and has enjoyed each and every one.<\/p>\n<p>But,\u00a0his favourite Lake District walk is Gowbarrow in Ullswater.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf I was told I only had one walk left, I would choose Gowbarrow. I would start off at lake level and take the gradual ascent, where on the way you get to see a good variety of scenery \u2013 including the lake and Aira Force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my favourite walk because you get to appreciate the majesty of the landscape but without having to tire yourself.
