Windermere<\/a> Golf Club, hailed by the press as a \u201cminiature Gleneagles\u201d, offers golfing with some of the very best views of any golf course in the UK. It also has an excellent reputation for its quality USGA-spec greens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Elevated above Lake Windermere, the 18 hole 67 par, 5,122-yard course, has panoramic views south to Morecambe Bay, over to the iconic Langdale Pikes and east to the Kentmere Horseshoe and High Street.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst a short course, it offers plenty of challenges. For beginners, resident pro<\/span> Simon Edwards is on hand to get you towards your golfing goals. Windermere Golf Club is a typical Lake District golf course, with lots of hills and swathes of perfect greenery and whilst the scenery is perhaps less dramatic than some of the others, it is very idyllic indeed. The legacy of James Braid, famous not least for his The King\u2019s course at Gleneagles, lives on in 200 golf course designs across the UK, one of which is Cockermouth Golf Club, in the far western Lakes. James Braid won the Open Championship five times and also because famous for his course architecture and for many, the best way to appreciate his work is to visit one of his courses. This club occupies one of the most scenic locations, lying behind three fells in the quiet western Lakes<\/a>.\u00a0 Follow the A66 from Keswick, along the wildlife haven that is Bassenthwaite Lake past the peaks on Grasmoor and Grisedale Pike and you\u2019ll arrive at the 18-hole, par-70, moorland course. At 5,410-yards it is a comparatively short course, but offers very unique holes on naturally rolling fairways and often fast, steep greens. This course is a hidden gem, offering unique views of Skiddaw, the Lorton Fells, Bassenthwaite Lake and as far as the Isle of Man on a clear day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Grange Golf Club<\/h4>\n

This year marked 100 years for Grange-over-Sands and today the extended 6,044 yards, par 70, course is respected as one of the best in the Lake District.\u00a0 It is also popular with visitors as it is only 7-miles away from Windermere and mid-high handicappers can tee with confidence as the course is not too intimidating. There\u2019s plenty of variety, with several dog-legs and many water hazards. The beautiful clubhouse is relaxing with picturesque views. Located on the edge of the Lake District, overlooking Morecambe Bay, Grange Golf Club is only 15-miles from the M6 motorway \u2013 a hidden gem in the South Lakes<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Eskdale Golf Club<\/h4>\n

Eskdale Golf Course in the Lake District coastal village of Ravenglass and at the base of Muncaster Fell is for those looking for some challenging golf in a seriously scenic and somewhat remote setting. The 18 hole par 69 parkland course that reaches 5,494-yards in length prides itself on its quiet and relaxed atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

Henry Cotton, three times Open Champion in the 1940s, helped in the development of Eskdale Golf Club and so there is a real feeling of nostalgia about playing this course. This is especially the case at the signature hole 14<\/span>th<\/span>, looking down over a large trout pond.<\/span><\/p>\n
