For keen walkers, there\u2019s always the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of famed fell walker Alfred Wainwright and get ticking off his world-renowned walks.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s really no end to the variety of hikes and strolls, which take-in the picturesque patchwork of the Lake District \u2013 there\u2019s anything from a flat and push-chair-friendly few-mile stroll along the shores of Tarn Hows to a Helvellyn hike, testing strength and fitness.<\/p>\n

And, who could resist sitting and gazing at a magnificent, tumbling  waterfall \u2013 particularly one such as Aira Force, near Ullswater, one of the finest waterfalls in the Lake District.<\/p>\n

The beauty of a self catering holiday in the Lake District \u2013 particularly if it will be walking focussed \u2013 is that you can come and go as you please and you can cook up a picnic treat to keep you fuelled up for a full day walk.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve beautiful homes close to Hill Top Farm \u2013 the former home of Beatrix Potter and near Sawry where Peter Rabbit was created or Derwent Water, which gave Beatrix Potter the inspiration for Squirrel Nutkin.<\/p>\n

And, not forgetting the Beatrix Potter gallery \u2013 with displays of Potter\u2019s fine artwork.<\/p>\n

Plus, it\u2019s not so far to travel to learn about the history of pencil making at the Pencil Museum in Keswick<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And also, The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway where you can travel on a steam engine from sea to mountains, is another great way to see the Lake District.<\/p>\n
