This includes the dreamy view he wrote about in the Wishing Gate (1828). <\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"hardreadability\"><span data-offset-key=\"f9e8s-3-0\">And the host of golden daffodils he saw when he \u201cwandered lonely as a cloud\u201d (1807), inspired by a walk through Gawbarrow, Ullswater<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span data-offset-key=\"f9e8s-4-0\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3l0iu\" data-offset-key=\"6k0e5-0-0\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" data-offset-key=\"6k0e5-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6k0e5-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3l0iu\" data-offset-key=\"easnn-0-0\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" data-offset-key=\"easnn-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"easnn-0-0\">William lived at Dove Cottage \u2013 now the home of the wonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/wordsworth.org.uk\/\">Wordsworth Trust<\/a>. He\u00a0died at Rydal Mount in 1850 and <\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"passivevoice\"><span data-offset-key=\"easnn-1-0\">is buried<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span data-offset-key=\"easnn-2-0\"> in Grasmere churchyard.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3l0iu\" data-offset-key=\"8gvi4-0-0\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" data-offset-key=\"8gvi4-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8gvi4-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3l0iu\" data-offset-key=\"5v5ee-0-0\">\n<div class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\" data-offset-key=\"5v5ee-0-0\"><span class=\"hardreadability\"><span data-offset-key=\"5v5ee-0-0\">But it wasn\u2019t <\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"qualifier\"><span data-offset-key=\"5v5ee-1-0\">just<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"hardreadability\"><span data-offset-key=\"5v5ee-2-0\"> the fact that this great poet resided in the Lake District, it was his love for it which poured out into the ink with which he wrote<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>William Wordsworth Facts<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1325346 size-large b-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Nature-never-did-betray-the-heart-that-loved-her._-1024x512.png\" alt=\"William Wordsworth Quote on Nature\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Nature-never-did-betray-the-heart-that-loved-her._-1024x512.png\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wordsworth was born 7 April 1770 at Cockermouth in Cumbria.<\/li>\n<li>Wordsworth was awarded honorary degrees from Durham and Oxford University. He became Poet Laureate of England in 1843.<\/li>\n<li>He published his first poem at 17.<\/li>\n<li>Wordsworth initially supported the French Revolution, but became disillusioned by the excesses of\u00a0Robespierre.<\/li>\n<li>He wrote a single, unsuccessful play.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Wordsworth Trail<\/h3>\n<p>Whether an avid fan, or someone who just wants to learn about these Wordsworth pinpoints, an online map has been created thanks to the Wordsworth Trust Initiative. It\u2019s a great guide, which explains the places and landmarks which inspired his best-known verses \u2013 and indeed his family too.<\/p>\n<p>So, as well as the popular tourist destinations of Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, the guide of more than\u00a040 places gives you more to discover, many off the usual beaten track.<\/p>\n<p>Looking down the list of places, you\u2019ll see there are lots of idyllic spots to discover. Perhaps Patterdale, where the great poet wrote about the beautiful Aira Force waterfall as the \u201cwild stream of Aira\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Or Emma\u2019s Dell, referred to in Poems on the Naming of Places, which is associated with his family and in which Wordsworth said: \u201cThis poem was suggested on the banks of the brook that runs through Easdale, which is in some parts of its course as wild and beautiful as brook can be. I have composed thousands of verses by the side of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are\u00a0some of the places to visit in the Lake District, where you will\u00a0discover more about Britain\u2019s celebrated poet and Britain\u2019s idyllic countryside. For the full list compiled by the Wordworth Trust, see here<\/p>\n<h3>Grasmere<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1325379 b-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Grasmere-LookingOverGrasmere-1024x614-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2020\/10\/Grasmere-LookingOverGrasmere-1024x614-1024x614.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This pretty village is where Wordsworth lived and is where you will find Dove Cottage. In the Recluse, Wordsworth refers to the village as the \u201ccalmest, fairest spot on earth\u201d.\u00a0Wordsworth died of pleurisy on 23 April 1850 and was buried in Grasmere\u2019s St Oswald\u2019s church, where you can visit his grave.<\/p>\n<h3>Esthwaite Water<\/h3>\n<p>The place which Wordsworth would walk and had \u201cmiles of pleasant wandering\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Glow Worm Rock<\/h3>\n<p>Poems of the Imagination includes The Primrose of the Rock and is believed to refer to this rock, which Wordsworth said was plentiful in glow worms.<\/p>\n<h3>Skiddaw<\/h3>\n<p>This 3,054 ft mountain just north of Keswick is popular with walkers and climbers and also inspired Wordsworth in his poem At the Grave of Burns.<\/p>\n<h3>Brother\u2019s Water<\/h3>\n<p>A stunning setting and one which Dorothy Wordsworth \u2013 William\u2019s sister \u2013 wrote about in her diary, in which she states she found William writing a poem of the \u201csights and sounds\u201d they heard.
