Our excitement of spotting seasonal blooms still marks the oncoming of the seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, our woodland, wilder open spaces and hedgerows develop their blue haze as the humble <strong>bluebell <\/strong>comes out to welcome the early summer sun. \u00a0At about the same time you can smell and see, the beautiful white <strong>wild-garlic ramson <\/strong>flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout June, July, and August, immerse yourself in the joys of the wildflower <strong>hay meadows<\/strong> as they buzz with insects, butterflies, and chatter with birds. Against nature\u2019s backdrop, we put on a calendar of traditional and contemporary events to make the most of the longer days and milder evenings.<\/p>\n<h4><em>Here\u2019s a small selection I\u2019ve picked for your diary. The venue&#8217;s websites will give you the latest news, ticket sales, and updates.<\/em><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3744\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3744\" class=\"wp-image-3744\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/03\/shutterstock_1507068725.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rannerdale Bluebells, Buttermere<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Until 29 May<\/strong> you can see two remarkable manuscripts from William and Dorothy Wordsworth on display at <strong>Wordsworth Grasmere<\/strong> for the first-time side by side. The British Library has loaned its unique manuscript of William\u2019s extraordinary poem <em>I\u00a0Wandered Lonely as a Cloud<\/em> to be displayed alongside the Wordsworth Trust\u2019s own copy of Dorothy\u2019s <em>Grasmere journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we have the Romans to thank for the daffodil being such an iconic image of spring. They planted daffodils in memory of loved ones or comrades fallen in battle and probably brought daffodils to Britain from the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Seek out all the stories of the Romans in Britain as we celebrate 1900 years since the building of Hadrian\u2019s Wall.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Until 12 June,<\/strong> you can see <em>To the Edges of Empire<\/em> and <em>Uncovering Roman Carlisle<\/em> at <a href=\"https:\/\/tullie.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tullie House Museum<\/strong><\/a> and explore their permanent Roman Galleries. <em>To the Edges of Empire<\/em> offers an intimate look at 11 Roman treasures illustrating the vastness of the empire.\u00a0 Here you can see the earliest known souvenir from Hadrian&#8217;s Wall: the <strong><em>I<\/em><\/strong><em>lam Pan<\/em>, the <em>Newstead Helmet<\/em>, a <em>phalera<\/em> from Roman Egypt.<\/p>\n<p><em>Uncovering Roman Carlisle<\/em> comes only months after the completion of the excavation of the Roman bathhouse site at Carlisle Cricket Club. The exhibition documents the excavation, looking at what was discovered through the stories of the people that found them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Until the end of October<\/strong>\u00a0Continue your Hadrianic journey to the stunning west coast to Ravenglass, Eskdale, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.muncaster.co.uk\/events\"><strong>Muncaster Castle<\/strong><\/a> to see <em>Roman Muncaster<\/em> and a lively events programme. This exhibition of local Roman finds and artefacts from the port, fort, and vicus in Ravenglass will tell you all about what the Romans were doing here and give you an insight into their daily lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>29-31 July<\/strong> A personal favourite in the cultural calendar is <strong><em>Potfest.<\/em><\/strong> Set to the backdrop of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cumbriaslivingheritage.us9.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=c375a490886cfa8c5bc11863d&amp;id=92c081a35e&amp;e=588a1487e8\">Hutton-in-the-Forest<\/a>. <em>Potfest<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has become a place of pilgrimage for makers, collectors and admirers of the finest contemporary ceramics. It\u2019s great to make a purchase, but just as lovely to look and chat to the makers \u2013 they love to share!\u00a0And of course, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings and Cloisters Tearoom delicious goodies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3860\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3860\" class=\"wp-image-3860\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/04\/Potfest-at-Hutton-in-the-Forest.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3860\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Potfest at Hutton in the Forest<\/p><\/div>\n<h4><strong>Longer summer days mean outdoor theatre and summer shows<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>So, dig out the picnic basket, shake out the rug and start planning summer afternoons and dusky evenings, chilled fizz and strawberries and cream. Don\u2019t forget a rug and warm coats just in case the weather turns!<\/p>\n<p><strong>July &amp; August<\/strong> Is the season for touring troupes to be hitting the road again. Enjoy some of the best headlining Folk Musicians, including the incredible Kate Rusby, on the 23 July. The event is designed to be relaxed and inviting with limited tickets, so everyone can have a great experience \u2013 tickets are on sale now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21 August<\/strong> The biggest Classic Car event in the region returns to Dalemain! This promises to be their most fantastic show yet with a day packed full of entertainment.\u00a0 You\u2019ll enjoy autotests, arena displays, great music, local food, and the option of a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dalemain.com\/\">Dalemain Mansion &amp; Historic Gardens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Year-Round<\/strong>\u00a0And if you\u2019re a petrol-head, why not head for a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk\/\">Lakeland Motor Museum<\/a> \u2013with hundreds of classic and some more familiar vehicles to browse. On some weekends there are rallies by classic car owners and enthusiasts only too willing to share their <em>pride and joy<\/em> stories with you.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe steam\u2019s your thing? Then take a cruise on one of <a href=\"https:\/\/lakelandarts.org.uk\/windermere-jetty-museum\/\">Windermere Jetty Museums&#8217;<\/a> fully restored heritage boats.\u00a0Escape with the gentle sounds and peaceful calm of the lake and embrace the spirit of Edwardian adventure. Their Summer programme begins in June with the\u00a0world premiere<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0<em><strong>The Climbers<\/strong><\/em>, \u00a0an exploration of our fascination with the mountains, fittingly premiering in the reputed birthplace of the British climbing movement. And for something a little lighter, from July to September are staging the smash-hit comedy <em><strong>One Man, Two Guvnors<\/strong><\/em>, a real laugh-out-loud rollercoaster for you this Summer.<\/p>\n<h4><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakelovers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2022\/04\/Theatre-by-the-Lake.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/h4>\n<p>Theatre by the Lake, Keswick.<\/p>\n<p><em>These are just a few of my ideas to get you out and about enjoying the culture in Cumbria.
