Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 15th March this year, so if you’re looking for the perfect way to celebrate, why not head to the Lake District? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Take a look at a few ideas\u00a0below on how to spend Mother’s Day in the Lake District and make your mother feel extra special.<\/p>\n

1. Indulge in Afternoon Tea<\/h3>\n

What better way to say ‘I love you’ than enjoying homemade scones, indulgent cakes and a lovely warm cuppa while taking in the Lake District views. Take your pick from quaint tearooms, lakeside manor houses, or quirky hotels to find the afternoon tea that’s right for you!<\/p>\n

There’s lots of choice here, from hotels to well-being centres, with a great range of facilities to match the kind of spa day you’re after.<\/p>\n

If you’re looking for the ‘wow’ factor, try The Spa at Low Wood Bay<\/a><\/strong>. Enjoy the indoor pool, steam room & sauna as well as outdoor hot tubs and the amazing Fellside Sauna. 3. Enjoy a walk in the garden<\/h3>\n

Why not take a walk in one of the many beautiful gardens here in the National Park. Holehird Gardens<\/a><\/strong> near Windermere is managed by the Lakeland Horticultural Society and is an award winning RHS Partner Garden. Brockhole<\/a><\/strong> Arts & Crafts house is set on the shores of Lake Windermere and is another popular choice, with stunning grounds dating back to the early 20th Century, take the heritage garden tour.\u00a0 The amazing Muncaster Castle<\/a><\/strong> has 77 acres of the most tranquil historic gardens in Cumbria and is not to be missed located in the Western Lake District<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sizergh Castle<\/a><\/strong> near Kendal<\/strong><\/a> is a fabulous Spring garden, with a super caf\u00e9 and trails around the estate.\u00a0 Many places now offer free mobility scooters available, so everyone can get out and enjoy the fresh air – check with the venue before you go. Make a day of it and pay a visit to the enchanting Holker Hall & Gardens<\/a><\/strong>, set near the historic village of Cartmel<\/a><\/strong>, wander round the peaceful grounds and then sample food in the courtyard caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

4. Cruise on the lake<\/h2>\n

If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Mother’s Day in the Lake District, why not take to the water! Hop on a Windermere Lake Cruise<\/a><\/strong>, the Ullswater Steamer<\/a> <\/strong>or the Steam Yacht Gondola<\/a><\/strong> on Coniston Water<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and marvel at the lakes from a different perspective.<\/p>\n

Rowing boats are also available to hire on Coniston Water<\/strong>, Windermere<\/strong>, Derwentwater<\/strong><\/a>, Grasmere<\/strong><\/a> & Ullswater<\/strong><\/a>. If you’re feeling adventurous you could even try your hand at some watersports with kayaking and paddleboarding readily available!<\/p>\n

5. Get out and about…<\/h2>\n

If you’re up for the challenge, you could head into the fells this Mother’s Day and enjoy some peace and quiet on the summits. Pack a picnic and take in the beautiful views while making the most of some quality time together.<\/p>\n

Tarn Hows<\/strong> near Hawkshead<\/a><\/strong> is an delightful easy circular walk around the Tarn, and further afield in Keswick,<\/a><\/strong> Catbells<\/strong> is a great place to start, with rewarding views over Derwentwater. 6. Get on your bike<\/h2>\n

Another way to experience the beauty of the Lake District is on two wheels. Head off the beaten track with mountain biking trails at Grizedale Forest<\/a>, there’s also Whinlatter Forest<\/a>,\u00a0 or try some road cycling through the quiet countryside to clear your head and feel energized.<\/p>\n

7. Enjoy a picnic on the beach<\/h2>\n

Why not simply pack up a picnic and head to the lakeshore. There are lots of great beaches to relax on, including Glencoyne Bay<\/strong> on Ullswater, Fell Foot Park<\/a> by Lake Windermere<\/strong>, Penny Rock Bay<\/strong> at Grasmere and Crow Park<\/strong> on the shore of Derwentwater. Soak up the spring sunshine and look out for the local wildlife on the lake while tucking in to some delicious local produce.<\/p>\n

9. Take a distillery tour<\/h2>\n

Fancy doing something different this Mother’s Day? Take a tour of the Lakes Distillery<\/a> – the first whisky distillery in the Lake District! The guided tour will take you through each step of the distilling process, as well as telling you about the history of the building and how their journey began.<\/p>\n

You can also enjoy a taster of some of the newest and award-winning products including vodka and gin.\u00a0 \u00a0After your tour why not browse the shop for some goodies to take home, or head for lunch in the bistro<\/strong> next door.<\/p>\n

10. Make a weekend of it<\/h2>\n
