Booths is a family owned and operated independent supermarket with 29 stores across Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
Our founder’s philosophy was simple: to sell the best available goods in attractive stores staffed with first class assistants. And we stay true to that today.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our food and drink and we are passionate about giving customers a taste of our region. We develop strong relationships with the best local suppliers, which means at Booths you can buy food which is made in Cumbria using time honoured traditions.
With skilled farmers raising great-quality animals on our doorstep, we are pleased to be able to source 80% of our meat from the region; from deliciously sweet Holker salt marsh lamb, raised on the Cartmel peninsula on Morecambe Bay, to hardy Herdwick lamb with a rich, gamy flavour raised by Cumbrian fell farmers, to traditional bred dry aged beef raised on National Trust farms exclusively for our stores.
Across Cumbria our suppliers are hard at work producing food and drink for your table.
Jackie and her team at Appleby Bakery are busily baking traditional Cumbrian recipes, including Cumberland Rum Nicky, a sticky date slice which uses the spices and rum popular in regional dishes due to Whitehaven’s historical significance as a port. Over on Morecambe Bay, Clare Worrall, of Furness Fish, and her skilled fisherman, are peeling and cleaning tiny shrimp, which are briefly boiled and bathed in spiced local butter to produce Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps.
And it doesn’t stop there. Good bread is one of the great pleasures of the table, and the small craft bakeries of our region are exceptionally talented at making bread as it should be. One of our smallest suppliers, Staff of Life, is an artisan bakery in Kendal. Owners Simon and Julie believe in letting time and yeast work their magic to produce some very special loaves.
We won’t take products until they are at their best for the table and food produced with such care deserves great cooking. Our skilled and knowledgeable assistants know their stuff, so if you need help choosing the perfect ingredient, you only need to ask. Our staff know our products intimately, so they can advise the right wine to go with a meal, suggest a new cut of meat for you to try, or recommend a selection of cheeses and deli items for the perfect artisanal lunch.
