From Cartmel, head for a circular 6.5 mile walk from the Racecourse to Beck Side, Speel Bank (keeping away from the nearby deer farm). Take in splendid views of the Leven Estuary, Coniston Fells and Ulverston’s Hoad tower monument and along the Cistercian Way back into Cartmel.

A visit to Cartmel’s famous medieval Priory is a must and of course perhaps there will be some crumbs for your furry four-legged companion from the village’s world-famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, sold in Harvey Nicols and Fortnum & Mason no less.

The tidal sands and mudflats of the ‘Cross Bay’ guided walks, between Morcambe Bay and Grange, have no dog restrictions and is an exciting and most unusual walk, for dogs and their owners alike. This crossing must be carried out as a guided walk only where you can enjoy the buzz as your group make this exciting voyage.

A 20 minute drive will take you to Lakeside, at the Southern shore of the UK’s largest and most impressive lake, Windermere. Here you, and your furry entourage, can hop on all-year-round dog friendly Windermere Lakes Cruises, Cumbria’s most popular attraction. Doggy bowls are on board and the cruise takes you to Ambleside where you can visit Paws by the Lake, a shopping mecca for dogs. The cruises are a great way to get out and explore more of the Lake District. Some of our favourite walks include Orrest Head in Windermere, a lakeshore walk from Wray Castle to Ferry House and the amble from Bowness pier to Potter country of Claife Heights.

A Pet Friendly Holiday in Cartmel

For such a quiet part of the Lake District, there’s lots going on throughout the year. It keeps visitors returning time and again to this peaceful valley. In September one of the UK’s largest country shows – the Westmorland Show – takes place in Kendal.
