La'al Yan, your Cumbrian Hideaway.
Tucked in an elevated position between the Western Lakes and the Solway Coast in the quiet village of Branthwaite, La'al Yan is a self-contained annexe with its own private entrance, offering within easy reach of much of Cumbria whilst being far enough from the road to feel properly peaceful.
Past guests have called it a calm and cosy oasis, and that is exactly what we hoped to create.
Inside, you will find an open-plan space that has been lovingly put together rather than simply furnished, decorated throughout in soft greys, cream and warm golds with rest and tranquility in mind.
There is a comfortable, generously sized two-seater sofa piled with soft cushions for sinking into after a day on the fells, plenty of spare towels and cosy blankets on hand, and a full-length mirror so you can check you are properly wrapped up before heading out.
The kitchenette is well equipped with everything you need for real meals, not just microwave suppers, and the double bed is dressed in luxurious three hundred thread count linen for a proper night’s sleep.
Little extras run right through your stay, from a welcome basket with treats from a local bakery and fresh flowers on arrival, to a selection of eco-friendly, locally made Cumbrian toiletries in the bathroom.
Guests often say we have thought of everything.
We know a good walk is even better with a wagging tail alongside you, so La'al Yan is proudly dog friendly, and we put together a welcome basket just for them too, with a lead, waste bags, a towel for muddy paws, a cosy blanket and a few treats, because your dog is one of the family for the whole stay.
Whether you are here to walk the fells, explore Loweswater, Ennerdale and Buttermere, or simply to visit family nearby, La'al Yan gives you a genuinely restful, well-equipped base to return to each evening.
La'al Yan is separate from our main house, with a small step up into the private entrance and on-street parking right outside.
We are in a rural village just three miles from the Western Fells, and a car is essential here as there are no other transport links to the village itself, although bus routes to and from the lakes from our surrounding towns are excellent and regular, with travel information included in the welcome pack.
From our door, Cockermouth is 5.4 miles, Workington 4.3 miles, Ennerdale 6.3 miles, and Buttermere 9.5 miles, so you can easily reach the fells, lakes and local towns whenever the mood takes you.
