The property

Herdwick View is an imposing Victorian residence that was built in the grounds of the imposing Armathwaite Hall. The house, that once was home to butlers, housekeepers and chauffeurs, and lay abandoned for many years, has been brought back to life by a local family who have gone to great expense to create a fantastic holiday cottage that will be the basis of many fond holiday memories for years to come. This beautiful property offers a choice of four bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities, including one bedroom on the ground floor, a cosy and welcoming lounge, a fantastic social kitchen with contemporary dining area, a choice of two patios and all finished and equipped to the highest possible standard to offer luxurious quality accommodation ideal for great social holidays with friends or special family celebrations. Located at the northern end of Lake Bassenthwaite, just ten minutes drive from Keswick this lovely aera of the Lake District is a haven of peace and quiet and is home to the Baassenthwaite Ospreys and offer easy access to a myriad of footpaths, close to the high fells of the northern Lakes, within easy reach of the Whinlatter mountain bike trails and only a ten minute walk to the award winning Lakes Distillery with its excellent range of spirits and popular bistro. == Accommodation In Detail As you drive up to Herdwick View you will be instantly struck by the character of the building and eager to discover what lies inside! The front door opens to a hallway with cloakroom and WC. The welcoming lounge is furnished with leather sofas arranged around a cosy log burning stove and Smart TV with sound bar and is a lovely room to sit and relax and enjoy the company of friends. It is always the case that food and drink play a very important part of any holiday and so the social kitchen and dining room are the real heart of the home. The superb kitchen features a statement island unit and granite worktops and is equipped with quality appliances and includes a five ring electric hob, electric double oven, microwave, dishwasher, American style fridge freezer and a wine cooler and if you are an avid fan of Masterchef there is even a TV in the kitchen! Leading from the kitchen is a beautiful dining room with picture windows and patio doors to the first of the two patios. Choose from anyone of four bedrooms. On the ground floor, the first of these bedrooms is presented with a king size bed, views across the garden and a luxury ensuite shower room with walk in shower, basin and WC. The first floor bedrooms comprise are all finished to the highest standard with luxurious ensuite facilities; the first a king size room with woodland views and an ensuite with feature bath and walk in shower, the next bedroom is again presented with a king size bed and from the window seat you can enjoy views across the garden and in the winter the occasional glimpse of Lake Bassenthwaite and complemented with an ensuite bathroom, the final bedroom is presented with a double bed and an ensuite shower room. All the bedrooms include TVs and USB charging points. The cottage is screened on two sides by woodland that us a real haven for wildlife and to the south west the grounds are more open allowing the cottage both privacy and views. The south facing patio is just the spot to relax with a drink in the sun and to the side of the house the larger patio has dinning furniture – ideal for all the family. The outside space is complemented by a covered outdoor summer house with seating for all, a Sonos sound system and outdoor heaters. To the front of the cottage there is parking for four cars. The access to Herdwick View is through Herdwick Croft, a small, family run, caravan park but privacy is offered as the final approach is through a gate and onto the private drive. Herdwick View is a popular choice for those attending weddings at the nearby Armathwaite Hall and is ideal for family and friends attending such celebrations. Location Set in the beautiful and peaceful north lakes this pretty part of the Lake District has a traditional feel with miles of drystone walls and farmland. Nearby you will find Lakes such as Bassenthwaite and Overwater and the striking Northern Fells of Skiddaw and Blencathra. The area benefits from being quieter and less commercialised than some of the other Lakeland towns and villages yet is only a short drive to the popular market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. As you explore this beautiful and tranquil part of the Lakes, look out for the ospreys soaring high above Bassenthwaite, enjoy a visit to the Lakes Distillery, explore the networks of paths that criss-cross the area, choose from a great selection of local country pubs and relax and unwind in the one of the most peaceful corners of the Lake District. The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater.
