“Very comfortable apartment providing all the essentials for a self catering holiday.”

Utensils were of a good quality and the bed, linens, towels etc were very nice. Attention to ridding the corners and under the tv of a bit of dust and cobwebs needed but overall the property was clean and well kept. The access road has been improved but it’s still a haul, especially when walking back up the hill - which we did! All part of an enjoyable week, despite the rain. Thank you.

“We have just returned from a wonderful stay at 1 fieldside grange.”

We loved it so much that we have rebooked it for next year while we were there. Beautiful views, easy access to the Lakeside fells, well equipped with high quality cooking utensils cutlery etc. We didn't need the thick duvet because of the heatwave and brought our own fan with us. Will be good if a fan was provided for the summer months and some tea, coffee and milk for the 1st night. I loved the premium quality bed linen. Such a homely place to stay..we totally relaxed at High Spy. We couldn't find a footpath from the property so if there is one that would be handy to know for next year!

“We stayed in a different apartment in Fieldside Grange at the end of March, which was lovely.”

However, our first choice of the excellent accommodation available at Fieldside Grange is always High Spy. While we were there we met some friends of the owners of High Spy who were staying in High Spy and we said to them that it was our favourite. They said they would pass on our compliments to the owners. We are now back and have discovered that what was our first choice has now got even better with a new fitted kitchen and new flooring throughout. This truly is our perfect place for a comfortable, relaxing holiday with a few mountain hikes thrown in for good measure.

“We really liked staying at High Spy.”

Great location with excellent facilities. Lovely and quiet. Close enough to Keswick itself to undertake a good walk yet far enough away to enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds of a country location. Each morning we woke after having a great night’s sleep on an very comfy bed with wonderful 400 thread cotton linen. These simple luxuries matter and we appreciate that on a well needed holiday.

Beautifully equipped and maintained, so handy fir centre of Keswick yet tranquil. Great to be able to park just outside ( for loading/unloading but also in one heavy downpour.) Please do let us know if it will be available again - dates greyed out at the present fir several entire months.

.Amazing apartment in great location.Modern spacious clean living room.Fab fully equipped kitchen with everything you need.cosy bedroom great bathroom. Ample parking with great sitting out area that gets the sun most of the day with great views..Road leading to accommodation has been greatly improved too and a lovely 20 minute walk into Keswick makes this the ideal location and within easy reach of all the attractions of the Northern Lakes ..we would highly recommend this fab place!!

The apartment was clean and tidy and a pleasure to return to after a good day of walking.We were informed on arrival by the owner of a ongoing issue with water supply in the area and were able to take some action to ensure we had enough water saved but in the end we were not affected by the issue. “We have had a fantastic week, in total luxury.”

The bed was super comfortable and the bed linen very luxurious. The shower was powerful and definitely what was needed each night after a long walk! The kitchen was kitted out with everything we needed and we cooked each evening with ease. A really super place to stay. Our only gripe was that we had to put all the utensils in the dishwasher when we arrived as some very not clean.

“We had a brilliant time at 1 Fieldside Grange The apartment was lovely, bright and sunny with a view towards Catbells and a short uphill walk to Castlerigg Stone circles.”

Very peaceful and quiet, warm and comfortable. We mostly left the car and made use of the buses, there is a choice of 3 routes the X4,X5 and 555 at the bus stop 10 minutes walk away. You will need to take a torch. The bed and bedding were luxurious and this kitchen was extremely well equipped. Would definitely recommend.

“We had a great week at High Spy.”

The apartment is furnished and equipped to a high standard and the views of the fells and Bassenthwaite are breathtaking. We were extremely lucky to have 6 out of 7 sunny days and on the one rainy day, what else do you do but visit the pencil museum in Keswick! On a negative note, as others have mentioned, the road up to the apartment is mostly a winding track with virtually no passing places. We were very thankful each time we managed to negotiate it safely! There are a couple of places where stones have been placed to stop anyone driving onto the grass. These really could, and should, be made into dedicated passing places for everyone’s peace of mind and safety. When we had a problem one morning with the drains, we called Sykes and, by the time we came back from our day out, someone from their maintenance team had called round and the problem had been fixed. Great service! We walked several times into Keswick via the old railway track (about 40 minutes) and once, in the opposite direction, to Threlkeld. Castlerigg stone circle is just a short walk up the road and of course there are lots of higher level walks with stunning views in the vicinity. We didn't eat out, as a Tesco delivery and Booths in Keswick supplied us with all we needed for a week’s self catering. Aside the access situation, I would recommend High Spy as a great base for a week exploring a beautiful area.

“High Spy is a really lovely, well equipped and comfortable apartment which has been furnished to a high standard.”

The bedding is beautiful and we slept very well. The views are fantastic and we enjoyed sitting out in the garden enjoying the view in the sunshine. The jets flying over was an added bonus. We did have a problem with the dryer not drying but the engineer arrived the same day to check it out which was very prompt. The one thing that is surprising is that the state of the lane up to High Spy isn’t mentioned in the description of the property. We have a 4x4 SUV so could negotiate the unmade rough track and the pot holes ok but we witnessed standard vehicles struggling. We feel there should be a warning as vehicles could easily be damaged. The track is also very narrow with little opportunity to pass and we were very relieved we didn’t come across a vehicle coming in the opposite direction as reversing would have been a nightmare! Having said that, we would book again.

“We have stayed in High Spy, formerly The Beeches, several times since 2010 and love the place, we were also considering purchasing it as it is currently on the market.”

This visit was, mostly, as pleasant as before with only one exception, the tumble drier was dead and in a very wet August week that was not good as we could not dry outer clothes for the next day. When we rechecked the website listing we noted that the facility had, at some point, been switched to washer only, but the original washer/drier was still in place. That said we would return to High Spy again but only with that issue resolved. John and Diane

“Great location and pleasantly appointed.”

A fire is a 'must have' feature for our Christmas hideaway - for this to be disabled was disappointing. The temperature and amount of hot water available is pretty poor. Thin summer duvet not appropriate in winter. The kitchen set-up is excellent. Sound of people walking around in the apartment above is a bit obtrusive at times. The track leading up to the property is deeply rutted - low riding vehicles will scape the ground.

We knew where High Spy apartment was because many years ago we'd stayed in the same building, the difference 25yrs later is quite astonishing. High Spy was a very well presented apartment and one of the best equiped, cleanest and most comfortable we have stayed in for the price. The views from outside are just fantastic. The only down side we could think of was the all uphill trek from the centre of Keswick and the long unsurfaced lane up to the property, but that's the price you pay for the excellent views. During our stay we had an issue with the drains, this was quickly resolved once we contacted the agent. All in all a great apartment, plenty of parking space, comfortable and well equipped and great views.

“This property is superb.”

Beautifully decorated and thought out. The kitchen is to die for, the space in the lounge with the cornered suite allowing for a dining area to be separate, is brilliant. The utility room is icing on the top. The views ( we have stayed in this building a few times before) are some of the best in the Lakes. There is only one downside, and it is not the property. It is away from Town, and we are fine with that. However, we have a standard saloon car and the drive up is challenging to say the least, without causing damage to your car. The tracks need filing in to make it safe. Whilst this is the most amazing place, We cannot risk damage to the car, so will not be able to return until we change to a 4x4 or crossover, for clearance needed. High Spy is 5 stars without hesitation. The driveway could be in a rally test.

A slight issue with heating was solved quickly with immediate response from the owner. The apartment is exactly as shown in the listing and is comfortable and bright. We were lucky with the weather and sat outside in the late afternoon enjoying a coffee in the warm sunshine. Can't wait to go back.

This might be due to the time of year ? The trail or track leading to the property is in need of some serious repair, this is causing a lot of wear and tear on vehicles using it.

“We were delighted to see that the comments that we made in our feedback only a few months ago had been acted on and the apartment is, for our needs, almost perfect.”

The only issue we now have is with the access driveway. We realise that this, presumably, is a shared right of way and it must be difficult to get all parties to agree and contribute towards its maintenance, but it has deteriorated significantly since our last visit in June to the point where we were concerned that we may damage our car. Having said that, we look forward to retuning to High Spy in the near future. It is one of the best apartments we stay in when visiting the area.

“I loved staying at High Spy; it was a gorgeous apartment and the grounds were beautiful.”

When out on the hills all day ,it was wonderful to come back to such a tastefully decorated apartment and relax in comfort.It is particularly important for me to be able to have a bath as opposed to a shower and so I really appreciated this aspect of the accommodation. I will definitely return next year.

“Great property overall, good location, immaculately clean, beautifully presented.”

Great views, good to have parking. Good to have the separate boot/coat room too. Only one thing that would make it even better - darker curtains or blackout blind in the bedroom as it is very light in there. We had a great stay, and even got good weather so we could sit outside and eat breakfast some days which was lovely.

“Everything was fine other than two very minor points.”

The dinner plates are too large to fit in the dishwasher, meaning if you put them in they prevent the rotating washer jet turning. And, compared to other holiday cottages that we have stayed in, the TV is a little on the small size. Other than this we were very impressed with the improvements that have been made since our last and many stay's at High Spy (previously known as The Beeches). We certainly would be happy to return again.

“Disappointing to find fitted bed sheet was very thin / worn and as a result had 3 holes in Difficult to understand how the housekeeper could have missed this when preparing the accommodation as the holes were immediately noticed by us on pulling back the duvet on first night.”

However, Sykes were very responsive the next morning and dealt with the issue very efficiently, providing a fresh fitted sheet without delay. No other adverse issues cropped up during our stay. The accommodation was very well appointed , warm, comfortable and we greatly appreciated the bath after a days walking in the rain. Bed was extremely comfortable. TV would probably benefit from being updated to a Smart TV or advise in the property details so that customers know to bring a smart TV device if wanted (to watch on demand / Netflix etc).

“We arrived a few minutes before 3pm sat in the car to check in on time but as we were about to go into the property the cleaners turned up they had it as a 4pm check in.”

They were only in the property about 25 minutes which to my mind in the current climate hardly seems adequate . The lower part of the driveway is in appalling condition it’s like a farm track very rutted and rough. The chopping board could do with replacing and a bath mat in the bath would be a good addition to prevent slipping when showering.

There are no passing places on it so meeting oncoming traffic is difficult. Distance to Keswick is more like 1.5 miles. Other than that, great.

“We found the property very cold on arrival as the boiler had gone off.”

We sorted the problem but the boiler then went off twice more during the week. Property warm when boiler is on. it seems that the shower does not have an individual thermostat to protect against water being turned on elsewhere in Fieldside Grange. Be prepared for temp fluctuations! Linen was clean, but it seemed that the bottom sheet, mattress cover and one bath sheet had not been fully dried before being stored, resulting in unpleasant ‘fewsty’ smell. Positives: a tasteful apartment. Only a short drive to Keswick and therefore very good location. This apartment is the only one with parking right at the door, so is convenient for anyone with mobility issues.

The lovely big clock on the wall did not work, think it needed a new battery.The outside light did not work. We were warm and comfortable on our third visit to the Beeches. Thank you. Fieldside Grange is located on the outskirts of Keswick on the Castlerigg Stone Circle road accessed by its own private driveway lined with mature trees, shrubs and rhododendrons.

Build circa 1850, Fieldside Grange was once a farmhouse and has been sympathetically renovated and refurbished to provide four 1 bedroom and six 2-bedroom apartments whilst retaining its original late and stone building.

Set in its own grounds of 1 and a half acres which offer magnificent views towards keswick and Derwentwater.

Bassenthwaite 7 miles, Ullswater 16.6 miles; Cockermouth 13 miles.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
