Skiddaw 19 is a beautiful Scandinavian-style lodge resting close to the bustling centre of Keswick, perfectly placed for enjoying the many outdoor pursuits in the Lake District National Park. Enjoying a reverse-level layout, this quirky holiday accommodation is perfect for families to call home as they immerse themselves in all that this part of the country has to offer. Enter the property and climb the stairs to find the open-plan living room, where the large picture window offers stunning treetop views from every angle of the room. The kitchen comes well-equipped with all the essentials to cook up an evening meal or to prepare picnic for the next day’s adventure, whilst the dining table is a great spot for enjoying meals together as a family, playing broad games brought from home or pulling open the map to plan the upcoming days. Afterwards, relax into the evening by flicking on the TV and getting snug on the sofa with a cup of tea in hand, or during the summer evenings, venture to the balcony to enjoy a couple of drinks whilst sitting under the stars, bliss! Once the evening has drawn to a close, venture to the ground floor to find the bedrooms, comprising of a twin bedroom and a master suite, which contains a king-size bed, a TV, good wardrobe storage and access to an en-suite shower room. Better acquaint yourself with your surroundings by taking a leisurely stroll into the town centre of Keswick, which is home to an award-winning, twice-weekly market, as well as a selection of supermarkets, bakeries and butchers, so that you can pick up everything you will need to cook up a storm back at the lodge. However, for the evenings where you do not feel like cooking, be sure to sample of the many eateries within the town, with enough choice to cater to the whole family’s taste buds. For an evening’s entertainment, catch a film at the 100-year-old Alhambra, a first-class cinema entertainment in traditional setting or enjoy the quirky 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater, which is considered the most beautiful theatre in Britain. During the daytime, you could hop on-board the regular cruise to explore the beauty of Derwentwater, before stopping off at the 18th century National Trust house which rests on a tiny island to brush up on the local history. Alternatively, pay a visit to the Castlerigg Stone Circle or head underground to explore the Honister Slate Mines, both promising to be a great activity for a family of all ages. A trip to the Lakes is not complete without walking on one of the many majestic fells, including Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horeshoe and Blencathra, or travelling slightly further afield to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak. The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
