    “A lovely comfortable spacious property.”

Was a little cold when we arrived but were able to run the heating.

Was a little cold when we arrived but were able to run the heating. The gardens were lovely and we spent most evenings outside enjoying the sunshine. Great location for exploring the Northern Lakes We had a young child and two dogs with us. The open plan was lovely but a stair gate would have really helped in stopping the child from going up the stairs and from ensuring the dogs stayed downstairs.

The property

Located on the site of a building dating back to the 14th Century Scalegill House, close to Lake Bassenthwaite, is s a traditional Lakeland longhouse with incredible history. The remnants of Roman forts can be found on the surrounding hills and with views to Skiddaw it is well positioned for exploring right from the door. Keswick, Cockermouth and Carlisle are all within 15 miles providing some great day trips out and several great pubs are only a short drive away including the Castle Inn which has an excellent reputation for great food. Scalegill is located at the end of a private farm track and is built on a north south direction as with all traditional longhouses meaning you can enjoy the sun all day and catch some incredible sunsets from the garden. The property has been thoughtfully re-developed and has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, the space had been very well utilised and offers excellent social space for friends and families. Accommodation In detail The Kitchen has a lovely country feel and features solid wood work surfaces, n electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave and a large double American style fridge freezer. An excellent coffee percolator will make brew time a lot more enjoyable, a large family dining table to seat the whole household is set under velux windows making this a light and bright room. From the kitchen you enter the luxurious lounge with is ideal for socialising in the evening over dinner or relax on the leather suite set in front of an enormous log burner and smart TV. The lounge leads onto a lovely conservatory / sun room which would be a lovely spot for a morning coffee with the weekend papers or a good book. A convenient shower room and toilet with lovely slate floors is located on the ground floor adjacent to the boot room, so it is ideal when returning from a muddy walk or a ride out on the mountain bikes. The boot room offers plenty of space for boots, coats, outdoor gear and secure storage for bikes and a handy utility area is equipped with sink and washer/drier. There are three bedrooms to choose from. On the first floor there is a bright and airy suite with comfortable king size bed, dressing room and smart shower room. The pretty second room can be presented either as a kingsize double of twin beds (please specify when booking). On the top floor of the house and set into the eves is a very spacious suite with lots of character with wooden beams and solid wood floors. Presented with a welcoming kingsize bed there is a lovely reading area looking out across the fields and it is complemented by a spectacular signature bathroom with double free standing feature bath. Back outside there is plenty of space for children to play with a large lawned garden and a spacious gravel patio with outdoor furniture. The cottage offers private parking for three cars. Location Set in the beautiful and peaceful north lakes this pretty party of the Lake District has a traditional feel with miles of drystone walls and farmland. Nearby you will find Lakes such as Bassenthwaite and Overwater and the striking Northern Fells of Skiddaw and Blencathra. The area benefits from being quieter and less commercialised than some of the other Lakeland towns and villages yet is only a short drive to the popular market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth As you explore this beautiful beautiful and tranquil part of the Lakes, look out for the ospreys soaring high above Bassenthwaite, enjoy a visit to the Lakes Distillery, explore the networks of paths that criss-cross the area, choose from a great selection of local country pubs and relax and unwind in the one of the most peaceful corners of the Lake District.
