The property

Thimble Hall is one of the most delightful properties we have ever discovered and only a minutes' walk from the centre of the village of Grasmere this fantastic property is sure to be a property that will create many fond memories for years to come. Refurbished to a very high standard by the current owners this charming cottage offers high-quality accommodation in one of the most desirable locations in the Lake District. The whole feel of this house is that of a very social space where friends and family can gather to enjoy time together with a beautiful, well-furnished lounge with cosy log fire and comfortable sofas. The large open kitchen diner is the real heart of the house with a great family dining table and well equipped, high-quality kitchen. At the end of the day, there are three beautiful bedrooms to choose from, one with ensuite shower room and these are complemented by a further shower room and family bathroom. The short stroll down the hill brings you into the very heart of Grasmere village with a fine array of tea rooms and shops, and a range of places to eat from Michelin Starred The Forest Side just a fifteen-minute walk from the cottage, local bistros to the cosy village pubs. Walks around in this part of the Lake District from gentle rambles along the lakeshore or to take in the stunning views from Loughrigg Fell or head higher onto the fells to bag a Wainwright or two including Fairfield, Helvellyn and Helm Crag all of which the more adventurous can conquer direct from the door! == Accommodation in detail Entering through the front door the cottage there is plenty of space for coats and boots before opening to a bright and airy open plan kitchen diner. The high vaulted ceiling adds to the spacious feel of this room and the dual aspect windows offer views across the grounds, patio and BBQ area and to the woodland beyond. The slate floor, the granite worktops and the central kitchen island unit reflect the consistent high quality with this cottage. Well equipped with range cooker with double oven, Smeg Fridge/Freezer, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine, this kitchen has everything you need to serve up everything from a hearty Lakeland breakfast to a special celebration dinner. The small utility room is also well equipped with washing machine, tumble drier, wine/drinks fridge and provides additional space to store outdoor gear. The lounge occupied the original 17th century part of the cottage, with cosy low beamed ceiling, oak floor, log burning stove, comfortable sofas and beautiful artwork. The original front door of the cottage leads from the lounge to the garden beyond. The snug/tv room is nothing less than a comfortable second lounge, furnished to the same high standard and is the ideal place to relax in an evening to enjoy a film or good book. Heading upstairs to the first floor there are three beautiful double bedrooms all offer views to the gardens and the woodland and the master bedroom boasts an ensuite shower room with basin and WC. The family bathroom is luxurious and the feature freestanding bath is just the ideal place to relax after a day on the hills. Returning downstairs there is a further high-quality shower room with walk-in shower, basin and WC. Thimble Hall is set in its own beautiful wooded garden complemented by a generous patio with outdoor furniture idea for alfresco dining and the owners have also created a BBQ area, ideal on a summers evening. Private parking is available for up to four cars. Unfortunately due to the layout of the property this cottage is unsuitable for children under 14 years old and does not accept pets. Location Nestled in the very heart of the Lakes, Grasmere is a lovely place for a romantic break in peaceful surroundings. With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to take on such famous Lake District walks as Silver How, Lang How and Helm Crag. Rising very close to the property is the impressive 'Fairfield Horseshoe' - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice. However, a holiday property in Grasmere isn't just a dream for walkers. This historic Lake District village is famed for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage is open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. Artists will enjoy browsing several watercolour galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of inspired local artists. The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the heart of the Lakes. From local shops and supermarket to quaint tea rooms and acclaimed restaurants - the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room is a treat for a special occasion and the Michelin Star awarded Forestside is just a few minutes' walk from the cottage. For touring by car or exploring the Lakes, the A591 leads you effortlessly south past Rydal Water to Ambleside on the northern shore of Lake Windermere, or north to Keswick and Derwent Water. Also easily found to your south are the breathtaking Langdale Valley and the Lake District's third-largest lake, Coniston.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
