The property

This wonderfully romantic Lake District cottage nestles in a pretty row just a short stroll from the shops and restaurants of Ambleside and the shores of Lake Windermere. Tucked away in a quiet elevated postition, at Busk Cottage you'll savour your contemporary creature comforts, including a well fitted bathroom and Wi-Fi. But you'll fall head over heels for the period charm of this lovely little hideaway; picture postcard whitewashed exterior, cosy living room with woodburning stove, all topped off with fabulous Lakeland views from the bedrooms. At the heart of the Lakes, Busk Cottage serves as a romantic Lake District bolt hole for couples, a superb base for walkers or a cosy, convenient family holiday home well-placed to enjoy the delights of Ambleside. (kids will love the attic twin bedroom!). == Accommodation in detail Entrance straight into the cosy, pretty lounge with woodburning stove and Lakeland slate floor (drop leaf table for dining in this room). A neat little kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher and washer/dryer and other quality appliances. First floor: Double bedroom with a wonderful window view. Attic floor: A cosy twin bedroom with Velux skylight for stargazing or admiring the view towards the lake. Location Vibrant Ambleside is a fabulous location for a romantic Lake District holiday cottage. Surrounded by breathtaking lake and fell views and traditionally a starting point for walking in the Lake District, the village is a friendly hub of cafe culture, expert Lakeland outdoor clothing shops and mouthwatering delis for stocking up the kitchen. Stroll to Waterhead Pier, and you can catch a Windermere Lake Cruise to Bowness or Lakeside - a great way to explore without even using a car. By night, there is plenty of entertainment in Ambleside (especially after a hard day on the fells!). Sample a local ale in one of the traditional Lakeland pubs, catch a film and a pizza at Zeffirellis, or spend a romantic evening at one of the acclaimed restaurants in Ambleside. This is definitely the place for a special occasion or honeymoon in the Lake District. For exploring the wider Lake District National Park, Ambleside makes a great starting point. The A591 leads easily to Rydal Water, Grasmere and Keswick. Branch off to the blissful seclusion of Langdale and Coniston, or take on the dramatic Kirkstone Pass drive (with a stop off at the Queen's Head for lunch).

About the location

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
