The property

Situated just a couple of minutes' walk from the heart of Ambleside Village, Gale Coach House has been carefully re-created by the current owners to offer high quality accommodation, in a great location and to make the most of the beautiful views from the first floor. Laid out as an 'upside down house' the bright and airy first floor lounge and open plan kitchen take full of advantage of the south facing views across the rooftops to Claife Heights and the Coniston Fells beyond with large floor to ceiling picture windows opening onto a glass fronted balcony spanning the width of the cottage. Stepping back outside the cottage is ideally placed to enjoy walks from the door to Wansfell or Loughrigg Fell, to explore the bustling village of Ambleside with a great collection of shops, bars and restaurants. For those seeking more adventurous challenges Fairfield Horseshoe and the Langdale Fells are all within easy reach, mountain biking fans will head to the nearby Grizedale Forest and Lake Windermere is within walking distance; ideal for canoeing or of course a romantic evening cruise! == Accommodation in detail Originally built as the Coach House for Gale House, the property is approached through the gateway to Gale House. One private parking space is available to the front of the property. An excellent range of local shops provide everything you need to stock up the kitchen, a wide range of excellent restaurants are available to try (including those on the stunning shores of Lake Windermere), Lakeland pubs to wind down in and an excellent cinema too. The main attraction is of course Lake Windermere's shore, and within a few minutes you'll be walking on to Waterhead Pier and taking a leisurely lake cruise to Bowness or Lakeside. For day trips throughout the Lakes, Ambleside is a great place to start. The A591 leads north to Rydal Water, Grasmere, Coniston and Langdale, or south to Troutbeck, Windermere and Bowness.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
