“We have stayed here before and really love the location and the property, with one exception.”

The floorboards above the bedroom are so creeky, we woke every time there was movement upstairs

The property

Within a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside village, Koru at Ambleside is an elegant, sophisticated and romantic retreat for two. Taking its name from the New Zealand Maori symbol for new life, growth, strength and peace, Koru At Ambleside is the ideal retreat to relax and enjoy the beauty and adventure that is waiting to be discovered in the Lake District. This ground floor apartment has a spacious lounge with cosy log burning stove and balcony with kitchen to the side, a queen size bedroom and ensuite bathroom. With an array of walks from the door, enjoy the popular vistas from Loughrigg Fell and Wansfell, follow the river Rothay through the valley and the lakeshore paths beside Rydal Water and Grasmere. If it's the high fells that appeal then there are challenges aplenty. Returning to the village, Ambleside offers a great selection of local bars, cafes and restaurants that are busy all year round. Great local shops, welcoming village pubs and a choice of cinemas make Ambleside one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Lake District. Accommodation in detail Forming part of a Victorian Gentleman's residence, Koru at Ambleside is a larger than expected ground floor apartment. From the stone porch the front door opens to the hallway, which leads to the elegant sitting room with comfortable sofa and armchairs arranged around the cosy multi fuel stove. In front of the large bay window, complete with the original working shutters, is a dining table making it the ideal spot for a romantic dinner for two. The tall period windows open to a small balcony with chairs and views over the roof tops to Loughrigg Fell. The beautiful bedroom is a welcome retreat at the end of the day with a comfortable king-size bed. The en suite bathroom is well appointed with bath with shower over, basin and WC. At the end of the hallway there is a small drying room. There is a dedicated parking space for one car and even an electric car charging socket.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
