    “There was crumbs on the floor of the Iiving room and kitchen.”

    Kitchen doors had greasy finger marks and someone's contact lense was stuck to the bath panel. In addition it was dusty and generally appeared to need a good thorough clean. Facilities were fine and clean bedding and towels but disappointed with the poor cleanliness.

The property

Aptly named, this contemporary cottage apartment looks straight towards Loughrigg Fell from its central setting. Found opposite Hayes Garden World, adjacent to Lake Road, only a short stroll from the absolute heart of Ambleside and the ferries at Waterhead, we think this is a perfect base for a holiday at any time of the year. Modern and sophisticated sum up this little hide and if you yearn for somewhere beautiful on the doorstep of Lakeland's most picturesque and visited village - look no further. Ambleside itself is quite the cosmopolitan place to be, stocked full of excellent restaurants, local shops and pubs to tempt you out in the evening, while walking is in abundance straight from your doorstep. == Accommodation in detail A small entrance hall has a staircase leading you to the first floor with an open plan lounge/dining room providing lovely views, sumptuous furnishings, warming modern fire, large LCD TV and a very well equipped kitchen which opens onto the living room. Upstairs again to the top floor with arched ceilings and even better views. There is one Kingsize bedroom and one Twin Bedroom which are both beautifully furnished and the bathroom is fresh and modern. The property comes complete with wifi. Location Nestled on the northern shores of Lake Windermere at the heart of the Lakes, Ambleside is a charming historic village that has grown to become one of the most vibrant destinations in the region. Part of Ambleside's appeal is its location; enjoying the tranquility and activity of Lake Windermere's shores (lake cruises depart just outside the village centre), but also the dramatic backdrop of our Lakeland Fells and mountains (Ambleside is renowned as a hub for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts). It's easy to see why so many return year after year and why so many long to make their home here! In the village centre, explore tempting cafes and a wide range of shops - everything from local craft to expert outdoor clothing. Ambleside is home to two cinema venues and several acclaimed Lake District restaurants - along with the wonderful country pubs in the surrounding area you'll be spoilt for choice. Special evenings out or romantic occasions, all are catered for within the village centre. Within walking distance of Ambleside village centre is Waterhead Pier; the departure point for Windermere Lake Cruises. With regular departures throughout the day, you'll find the elegant 'steamers' or smaller launches a perfect way to explore without a car. The boats travel the full length of the lake, with stops at Bowness and Lakeside. The property has a useful local council (SLDC) parking permit for both the adjacent car park and many other local car parks - very handy for your days out in the area.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
