“The instructions were inaccurate about pubs within walking distance.”
The nearby hotels were for residents only and the road was busy to walk along with no footpath.

“Great location and well equipped cottage, in a little hamlet with a secluded garden, what's not to like.”- Gillian, September 2021
“We had a great week in the cottage, it’s a great base for exploring the lakes and the garden is really lovely.”
The beds are very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for a family of 6. We were able to cook in the kitchen and everything we needed was provided. One thing to note - this property has damp issues - not just in the bathroom but evidence of mould in the living room and bedrooms including in the curtain linings. Prospective renters should be made aware of this as we have a child with severe asthma which is triggered by damp/mould. A dehumidifier is provided but I feel it should be included in the information nonetheless.- Adulaya, July 2021
“This is a lovely spot for a stay, with most things being as advertised.”
The twin beds were much lower than shown in the pictures (almost on the floor), which wasn’t a problem for us as we had children sleeping there but may be a problem if you need older folk to be using those beds. The situation of the cottage is perfect for exploring the area and we would recommend it as a base for visiting the Lake District.- Laura, July 2021
“Lovely little cottage in a great location.”
Very well equipped with everything you need and nice sized garden too. Really enjoyed our stay and hope to book again.- Helen, May 2021
“The Old Post House was a fantastic property and in a great location as a gateway to visit the Lake District.”
The property was a relaxing environment to get away from the hustle and bustle of work. Really enjoyed the proximity of Lakeside where you could hop on the boat to visit Bowness & Ambleside.- Mr Bradley, Jul 2019
“An ideal property for a family holiday including 2 young children- space to play outside.”

About the location
Newby Bridge 1.2 miles; Bowness-on-Windermere 8.7 miles.
Set on the southern shores of Lake Windermere, the small, sleepy hamlet of Lakeside offers a peaceful getaway location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s popular attractions, but still within easy reach of them. Whether you decide to discover the area in the car, by foot, bike, boat or steam, there’s plenty to see nearby to keep the whole family content. The ferry dock offers the chance to travel by boat to Waterhead or Bowness, or take a shorter trip to the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, across the water, which offers pretty grounds set alongside the very tip of the lake, providing plenty of places for picnics, paddling, games and gentle strolls on sunny afternoons. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows. Lakeside offers an exclusive holiday location with all of the Lake District’s delights at your fingertips.
Outside, the gardens have a wrap around patio area and the garden is not enclosed, so care with children and dogs is needed.
